The Fullness Of Time!

“But in the fullness of time, God sent forth His Son…” Galatians 4:4

Alexander the Great, prior to Christ’s coming, required all of the Mediterranean world to have one common communication and writing – Greek. This highly-descriptive language would be a most valuable tool in spreading the teachings of the Hebrew Bible (Old Testament or Tanakh) and particularly the New Testament in a language everyone knew.

Two hundred fifty thousand miles of roads had been built with Roman ingenuity and labor by the time Christ was born. The power of the Roman Empire created a network of highways throughout Asia Minor unparalleled in the ancient world. The spread of the gospel message in the common language of the people was accelerated by an unlikely source, namely, the pagan Greeks and Romans! All roads did, indeed, lead to Rome, and this great city of influence would play an important role in the spread of Christianity to the Gentiles.

Jesus Christ came at just the right moment in history. It was likely not December 25, a date decided upon around the third century, and it is unlikely December 28, the date assigned as Christ’s birth by the Coptic Orthodox Church. But it is an indisputable fact that Jesus was born somewhere between 4BC and 6AD. During this time, countless thousands of Jews from many regions would come to Jerusalem during Passover and other holy days. The gospel influence on these Jews was significant and resulted in many taking this good news back to their respective towns and villages where many Christian churches were established.

The “fullness of time” means that God, in His infinite wisdom, decided the exact time to take on human flesh as a Jew and fulfill first advent Messianic prophecies of the Hebrew Bible. The long-awaited Savior of the Jewish people had come – not as a conquering king, but as a sacrificial servant – not as a lion, but as a lamb.

If you, dear reader, have not considered the claims of Jesus Christ, if you have not pondered the work He accomplished on your behalf, I urge you to read Matthew, Chapter 2 and Luke, Chapter 1. History is very much about His-story!

He came at just the right time nearly 2000 years ago and now is the right time to make peace with the Prince of peace. Jesus said: “The Son of Man came to seek and to save those who are lost” Luke 19:10. Now is the time to make time for Christ before the time comes when He will come a second time to judge those who had no time for Him.
